Flag of the Provisional Government of National Unity
March-April, 1946
"Let us be frank and real, more serious than ever before. The Polish Provisional Government has recently made major strives in not only our independence but also in our own paths moving forward. We've already brokered deals with members of the London-based exiles, including Stanisław Mikołajczyk who is now our Deputy Prime Minister and 2nd Vice-President of the Council of Ministers.
What we are offering is not complex, we have Communists within our government, yes, but *we are not Communists ourselves. 8 out of the 15 members of our Cabinet are openly anti-communist. What we're mostly trying to get at is that the fighting should be ended, it should be over. We have no quarrels anymore, we simply want to put this country on the right track and mend what broken bonds we can.*
The military says they want to demilitarize to 150,000 but cannot so as long as there continues to be an ongoing insurgency. We're all brothers and sisters, we don't want to keep fighting. If you come forward or have information on those who are willing to come forward, please let us know. We're willing and offering full amnesty for every person that throws up their arms from now for the next 4-months."
~ Minister Jan Rabanowski, Ministry of Communications - Democratic Party.
The message was sent via radio across the country with posters placed in Polish-led rebellious city-centers and villages, encouraging that amnesty will only be offered once and for a temporary period. Newspapers and informational advertisements yield that there would be zero consequences against those that do come forward, inviting them to help in the reconstruction of Warsaw and to return to helping aid the economy.
The largest thing that has been pointed out is not only the freedom of the press still ongoing in Poland but also the fact that there is still a free-market economy in the country. The only nationalized items were military manufacturing centers. Truly, it comes at face-value that the Polish Government does have communists within its ranks but members of the Democratic Party insist that joining their ranks will bolster the upcoming 1947 Elections, enabling more votes away from the Leftists.
A true return to normalcy.
Newspapers and interviews sanctioned by members of the Milicja and general law enforcement state that after September 5th, there will be no further amnesty for these individuals. It remains as a one-time deal. "Take it or leave it."
