Ministry of Defence
May, 1968
Brigadier-General Mohammad Assad Moukiiad exists currently as the Head of the Syrian Air Force. A man familiar to most Syrians, formerly a Meteor-pilot trained in Great Britain has made several key reforms to the Syrian state.
He will be sending frequent and consistent reports of the Syrian Air Force's operational status to Hafez al-Assad, Minister of Defence. Aircraft within Syria were grounded for several months while undergoing massive changes in their doctrine and operational capabilities.
New Commanders
Brig-General Mohammad Assad Moukiiad along with Hafez al-Assad have written off new orders allowing for the Alawitization of the Syrian Air Force. In this, prominent members of the Air Force with Alawi ties or Alawi members themselves have been promoted over others. Any dissent to this was brutally but swiftly brought down.
New Airbases
We will be constructing new Air Bases for Theatre/Headquarters control respective of the Army's regions as seen here.
Shelters
Airbases are going to see a series of defensive measures at these following locations while hardened aircraft shelters are constructed, a feature that the People's Republic of China have agreed to fund. True, this offers minimal protection for strategic transport aircraft and surveillance aircraft but they still provide immense protection for the weapons that we know our largest enemy currently employs.
These sheltesr will also be receiving kevlar lining, protecting them not only from most munitions but also from bomblets.
Aerial Dispersion
Besides the shelters, guaranteeing those in positions that simply must be there, we will also begin to have another method that will spread out our airforce, allowing our planes to not only deploy but also land even if air fields and their strips are gone. We will create a larger runway with a length of 2,000-2,3000 meters and 30-40 meters wide with runway aprons and a taxiway running parallel.
Along with these main runways, we will employ short runways, again so that forces may continue operation even if main runways are unavailable. They will be built in the vicinity of the airfield, typically 2-3 short runway per airbase which will run 800 meters in length and 17 meters wide, allowing our STOLs to excel in this. They will be again built in direct vicinity and directly connected to the main airfield.
The goal with these is with spreading the positions out, it creates a harder target to hit and forces the enemy air force to stay in the area far longer. Existing air bases will still be employed and house remaining units, however these ones will continue in their production from now until 1973 when it is predicted all will be completed.
- Disadvantages
This will require more MP's and personnel to guard and defend the air bases but given our already existing large military, this is something we can accommodate and are willing to happily.
Aerial Ingenuity
The future is helicopters. There is proof and evidence of this by the United States within Indochina. We believe firmly that Syrians should be the forefront of this new vessel and through the creation of more helipads can helicopters become more liberal within our own doctrines. These helipads as well as the beginning of training centers for the Syrian Air Force is going to set us on the path of success as whenever better and adaptable units becomes available to Syria, we hope to be on the right side.
