Ministry of Defence of Syria

The Syrian Arab Armed Forces has seen its failures, however nobody could have been prepared for the amount of failures that The Setback has caused for this country. One man, the Minister of Defence, has already seen to it that the organization and control of Syria be shifted towards his personal control has made it his mission to ensure that the command and control structure within Syria is maintained, that it continue to be pushed in the path of progress. We must evaluate where our failures have been, recalculate our doctrine and current stances and push on from our failures.

We must abandon all of these flaws that have ailed us in the past, abandon these foolish doctrines from leaders that knew little of actual war and forge our own path. A Corrective Movement must occur throughout Syria's complacent military! Minister Major-General Hafez al-Assad has brought out new and innovative ideas before Syrian Parliament and the Regional Secretaries of Syria, a way that we can completely and permanently avoid what occurred before. They gave him a limited-pass of what to work with, so he will be making do with what's available.

325,000 Active Duty and Reserve Personnel is not something that should be an achievement in our current time, it is nothing but a tax and burden on our society and country. As such, several dozen officers have received a sizeable severance cheque and thousands of soldiers have been allowed to, for the first time since 1963, return home from full-alert status. The Syrian Military will be cutting its numbers down from 325,000 total personnel to ‭‭‭250,000 by August with projections to lower our military size to 175,000 by the end 1969.

Most of these forces were immediately drafted within the week of "The Setback" for fears of an increased push into Syria but these foolish analysts, as well as the recruits they have brought into the forces will be standing down.

General Force Composition

A typical Armoured division will number roughly 8,000 soldiers and a Mechanised division may include 11,000 personnel. The Armoured divisions each have two Armoured brigades, one Mechanised infantry brigade and one division artillery regiment comprised of four battalions.

The Mechanised divisions each have one Armoured brigades, two Mechanised brigades and a division artillery regiment also comprised of four battalions.

Majority of the Infantry Battalions and Brigades that were recruited within the past 8-months will be shifting to an interim border patrol while they are slowly deactivated. They will receive the same pay as they were previously in active duty as well, a burden that Syria must bear for this foolish mistake, a promise that has made Hafez al-Assad extremely popular in the military, despite his Alawite Preference promotions.

Standard Equipment

We will be retiring the Type-56 as well as Makarov Pistols in favor of the TT-33's and the AKM Rifles. Further, for the PK Machine Guns we currently have still in store, we will be utilizing them and slowly adopting them to standard issue by 1972 to replace the RPK and RPD. All AMD-65's will slowly be phased to Special Forces and National Police Use only.

All Port-Said SMG's will also be shifted to the police force in its entirety until we find a better replacement.

National Defence Forces

As we transition towards a smaller military, the newly formed National Defence Forces will be highly populated with active duty personnel as they transition either into the reserves, civilian-life or remain a volunteer as part of the NDF. They will be under command of the Syrian Army and will occasionally perform the duties and responsibilities of an infantry role while the army provides logistical support alongside armoured and aerial operations.

In exchange for this massive demobilization of the Syrian Military, the NDF will be entirely retrained by 1975 into a professional border force to fit their roles more adequately. Until then, they will again perform the infantry role responsibilities.

Special Forces

The Special Forces units in Syria, compared to the West, are more akin to light infantry than they are to actual Special Forces units. We shall begin a tedious 4-year long process to change this. Hafez al-Assad phoned up his brother Rifaat who answered rather quickly. He explained the situation before the two agreed on creating a hardened fighting force capable of unconventional warfare.

A new academy shall be formed respective of these changes while the Light Infantry force becomes reorganized with Syrian Commandos filling in this new role as part of the Special Forces. Once this role can be adequately introduced, we will continue to use our SF units as Light Infantry and will depend on them heavily for major and needed operations but will work alongside the commando units until this time.

Once the new academies and training centers are established, the commandos will fall under their own unit.

Air Force

For an interim period, while the Syrian Arabian Military undergoes massive changes, Hafez al-Assad has grounded all military crafts in the country but maintained crews on high alert for interception within Syrian Air Space. We will comment on the Syrian Arab Air Force within the months.

He has been given operational command over the North Theatre, changing the pace from his current mission dramatically to that of integral and great importance. (Not really). The man is only good for his loyalty to Assad and has given him the rank with the intent of a crucial government stepping stone. Once Assad takes power, he will be able to give him an important assignment due to his career's resume in North Theatre.
