Post Body

As part of his government's plans to continue the development of Argentine energy production and development, President Juan Domingo Peron has secured permission from the Congress of Argentina to form a boy to help guide the development of Argentina's nascent nuclear energy program: La Comision Nacional de Energia Atomica (CNEA)-the National Atomic Energy Commission. The Commission will oversee research and development of nuclear power within the country and has been granted sufficient budget for the construction of an initial research reactor in Atucha.

The program's initial goal will be to create a blueprint for a future stable energy producing reactors with the overall aim of supplanting fossil fuel energy in Argentina by 1970 by at least 25%. The Commission will be overseen by a joint board of government officials (led by President Peron himself) and several Argentine and Austrian immigrant physicists (most notably Rudolf Richter).

Certain question have already arisen regarding the project, particularly the obatining of uranium for reactor operation. President Peron said that he was, "Reaching out to numerous world leaders with the hopes of procuring sufficient resources to comfortably supply the initial reactor and future research and power reactors."

The initial reactor construction will be provided $12,000,000 with a $4,000,000 cushion. The projected date of completion will be late 1955 to early 1956, optimally. Upon completion of the reactor, experiments will begin with the aims of enriching uranium for power usage and additional research into alternatives to uranium.

President Peron has made clear that Argentina does not intend to develop nuclear weapons, nor shall it ever, under his administration, pursue the development of any such devices of mass slaughter or war.
