Kim Il-Sung leaned forward, steadying the microphone as the producer indicated the broadcast was live. He paused for a moment, contemplative, before glancing at the prepared speech (which had been through many hands before his).

"Comrades. My voice comes to you in the spirit of cooperation and bravery, even as the sovereignty defense operation continues in the south of the country. I come to you, as the Chairman of the Korean Worker's Party, to say that our cause is one of just and righteous action in the face of our imperial enemies. We need not remind any citizen of the Democratic People's Republic of the reason for which the southern pretenders, in their foolhardiness, initiated an unprovoked and unwarranted attack upon the Kaesong electrical power substation. This event was followed by military aggression, which only through the outstanding and triumphant bravery of the Korean soldier was the imperialist menace repelled from our borders, and pushed back into his hiding-den.

"We Koreans need not a lesson in the terrible cost of fascism and imperialism. We Koreans need not be reminded of the effects of domination by a foreign state, the effects of labouring under the dominion of emperors, bosses, strikebreakers, wifesnatchers and pretended 'presidents.' It is only our zeal for freedom and independence, the spirit of revolutionary thought brought forth and sustained by the Korean Worker's Party that our maximum effort is dedicated to the defense of our nation, the defense of our sovereignty, the restoration of our borders and the unification of Korea under the program which has succeeded in revitalizing the north.

"As of now, our brave worker-soldiers have surrounded the lapdogs and their imperialist overlords around the city of Busan. A strong battle wages to liberate this last part of Korean territory in the hands of the Imperial Evil. What I say to all of the worker-soldiers of the Korean People's Army: Korea falls in step with you. Korea is forever in your debt, for you are the instruments by which our Disaster Century will turn into a Century of National Revitalization, Self-Determination, Self-Defense and Self-Sufficiency.

"Koreans, I ask of you this: I ask of you to give yourselves to maximum effort in the cause of your nation. I ask you to think of the nation in all your decisions. I ask you to retain faith in the Korean Worker's Party, to remember all that which the imperialists have denied you and all that the Worker's Party will deliver to you. The world watches us today, and while the imperialists will spit hate and lies and deliver unto you the most dreadful accusations, know that the workers of the world see us, the workers of the world believe in us and the long list of liberations in history already includes our own. Know that the smile of destiny is upon us. Know that the hand of our victory is sustained through your efforts alone.
