January 1951
In early 1951, representatives of Poland, the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Albania met in Warsaw to discuss matters of military cooperation. Understanding the increasing encroachment by the imperialist powers of the West as a clear and pressing concern, these nations agreed to a unified front in the East. The talks held in this Warsaw Treaty Conference were kept secret, save for key speeches published by Cominform and national press organs, but three products of the WTC were made public for international eyes:
- Poland, the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Romania, and Hungary have signed bilateral mutual defense treaties, ensuring that an attack on one is an attack on all.
- Due to unspecified reasons, the Balkan states temporarily postponed the signing of treaties until a later date.
- All Parties have agreed to meet yearly to discuss further concerns and plans regarding defense and cooperation.
September 1951
Following a long summit in Moscow, Yugoslavia, Albania, Bulgaria, and the Soviet Union have agreed to sign a supplementary set of treaties to the original block at Warsaw.
- Yugoslavia signs The Yugoslav-Soviet Treaty of Friendship and Mutual Assistance, featuring the same provisions seen in the Warsaw treaties. It does not, however, enter into treaties with other parties at this time.
- Albania and Bulgaria sign the proposed Warsaw treaties with all parties but Yugoslavia.
It is only through socialist fraternity and international friendship that the advances of imperialist forces can be warded off, and that the liberated peoples of the world might maintain their sovereignty.
