[EVENT] Let A Thousand Flowers Be Defoliated

Post Body

Recently, elements within the armed forces, intelligentsia, and opposition political blocs have started to express dissatisfaction with the regime. It's clear as day they want to return to the reactionary, pro-American dictatorship of yesteryear, to abandon the Bolivarian Revolution and become a lapdog of imperialism like so many other nations in Latin America. So we've had to abandon the softer parts of people's democracy: Where we let a hundred flowers bloom, they must now be removed with the herbicide of the revolution.

Even as the initially catastrophic food shortages have begun to somewhat ease, the autodefensas have been furiously reporting counterrevolutionary elements. From the workers to the peasants, to the petite-bourgeioisie [always the most suspect of classes] and even the army, which has been thoroughly re-educated under the guidance of our Chinese advisors, Bolivian society is riddled with traitors.

These traitors have been identified, rooted out, and sent to a farm upstate, ie, a tropical hellscape where they build rice paddies on a diet of cocaine and cigarettes until they drop dead, a clear sign of their guilt because we specifically have stated that dying is counter-revolutionary as it runs counter to the Five Year Plan. If they were innocent, they clearly would have done their hardest to remain alive even as every night, on a stew of too few sweet potatoes and, rarest of treats, an unlucky jaguar, they recite the praises of the revolution in hope of being some of the few to return from this nightmare deep in the Bolivian jungle.

While the MNR has not been outlawed, the purges seem to have fallen particularly severely on their supporters and sympathizers, and Victor Estenssoro Paz is presently under what amounts to house arrest. They have also targeted former landlords, former supporters of the ancien regime who have not been thoroughly re-educated, and even union bosses and priests, who, in the middle of the night, are taken out of their homes at gunpoint by uniformed agents of the Bolivian Ministry of Statistics and put in wooden boxcars and hauled north towards their doom.

Bolivia today, though no longer starving, remains in a state of general and abject terror. Offenses as mild as loitering, vagrancy and petty theft have earned sentences to The Farm, read out upon arrival from a pile of pre-printed forms. People vanish overnight and nobody knows where they've gone, and they're too scared to ask. Children scuttle into their homes well before dark, afraid of what the night might bring if they're left outside. It is a society under a Red Terror, and the only ones to blame for the "present state of emergency", are, in the words of Bolivia's leadership, "the imperialist plotters who surround Bolivia and seek to once and for all wipe the revolution from the map of Latin America".
