The Italian Empire was destroyed by Allied arms following the calamity of the Second World War, and with it all Italian claims to prominence in Africa were dashed away. The Republican government believes that with the Paris Treaty done and dusted, Italy must now recalibrate its interests with Europe and let the Empire die. The colonial forays were nothing more than a extraneous expense that led nothing more to devastating colonial wars and the loss of respect for the Italian state.

But there are still some men in the Italian state with the power and the will to once more return to this region. An opportunity has arisen in the shape of the Eritrean crisis. The British withdrawal in Eritrea threatens to upend the region, sending it into the abyss of civil strife. In this region, lives nearly 80,000 Italian citizens who if not protected, may fall victim to brutal reprisals from our former colonial subjects. This must not stand for if we stand idle if our people are slaughtered by the Eritreans, our credibility to protect Italian citizens abroad will be torn asunder.

In order to prevent this, The SISM and the Ministry of Defense with consent of the Prime Minister will allow General Vittorio Ambrosio to return to Asmara where he served as Governor of Italian East Africa, supplying him with old WW2 stockpiles, support personel and material supplies for his “private adventure” to succeed. His connections with the Italian Askari, the settler community and the Italian Army will prove invaluable to coordinate assistance between Rome and the Italians in Eritrea. Legally speaking Italy does not have territorial claims to Eritrea, nor will it desire to press these claims de-facto. But it will assist and arm up Italian settler communities in Asmara to form a perimeter and ensure their protection is maintained enough so that any succesor government to the British colonial administration of Eritrea would recognize the autonomy and security of Italians in the region.

-The Italian cruiser Raimundo Montecuccoli and the destroyers San Giorgio and San Marco will depart for Asmara the day after the Eritrean Colonial Administration expires. General Vittorio Ambrosio and Carlo Veccharelli will board the Montecuccoli and will escort the cargo vessels.

-With the ships, will follow the cargo vessels Mazzini, Magdalena, Hortensia and Lazarus carrying with it 30 L6/40 Light tanks, 55 AB-43 armored cars, 90 FIAT trucks, 36 howitzers, mortars, light machineguns 8 155mm heavy guns, construction materials (steel, concrete, rebar, etc.) construction tools, 2,500 Carcano standard rifles and 1,000 FNAB-43 submachine guns, 12 Semovente L40 47/32, medical supplies, radios, 10 C.200 Saetta, 12 Ba.65 light bombers. 8 Caproni Ca.309 recon planes.

-The “Corpo di Volontarie Eritrea” will consist of nearly 3,500 men and women, including engineers, aid workers, medics, clerks, specialists, 1 infantry regiment 1 mixed (motorized) regiment, a motorized reconissance company, an artillery company, 2 companies of the Bersaglieri and 30 veteran pilots. Through the activities they are to be considered hired aid workers at the state’s bill and will receive supply from in-going and out-going shipping from Asmara to Taranto. They are to provide the Italian settler comunity in Asmara to create the necessary institutions to form self government as well as allocate the necessary resources for their own internal and external security. Infrastructure will be repaired and rebuilt as well as the establishment of an airfield, barracks and fortifications in the city itself.
