Using the (open) bottom chamber of a moka pot to boil the water?
Post Body

I know you're supposed to start with hot water, not cold, on a moka pot, because if you start with cold water the coffee will come out bitter. But the solution everyone seems to suggest is to boil water in a separate kettle, pour it in, add the coffee, and close the pot.

What about pouring cold water in the bottom chamber, leaving it open above the flame until it boils, then add the coffee basket and close the pot? You'd avoid having to use a separate kettle.

Eager to hear your thoughts.
