I am American, but I wasn't much of a coffee snob until I moved abroad. I'm currently living in Vietnam and have access to some incredible coffee all around me.
I have become friends with a local roaster/distributor and I get to try all the interesting things he gets in. Recently he convinced me to try some single origin 100% robusta from the mountains near Hanoi and it's sooooo good. It's a little bit more bitter than the blends, but it has a rich chocolate flavor with some acidity, and man it's like rocket fuel. My normal brew measurements get me *wired*.
I don't remember seeing 100% robusta being offered in the 3rd wave cafe's in LA or NYC, but I was never really looking for it. Is it popular over there? I can get this stuff by the ton here if there is demand for it in the states. I'm not looking for a partnership or anyhthing, just the general opinion on the American consumer.
