My review of GV’s Just Like Heaven fest

Post Body

Long time Coachella goer, today I went to Just Like Heaven for the first time and wanted to share some thoughts.

— Just like Coachella, this was a very well organized festival. They’re really got it down to a formula. Easy parking, no tech issues, all sets stayed to the schedule (even when Fever Ray had 7 minutes to set up since Azealia Banks was 30 minutes late!)

— Grass festivals are soooo much better than parking lot festivals. Never going to a parking lot festival again.

— The VIP offerings seemed pretty useless in general. The new GA didn’t even have a viewing area for the main stage, just the second stage (weird). The Clubhouse was so far from both stages that it was too inconvenient to want to visit. However, it’s a bummer that GV has decided bathroom upgrades are a VIP perk, since the port a potties were ROUGH

— I never appreciated the videography at Coachella until today… the camerawork at JLH was total amateur hour. Felt like an intern was directing the shots / screens. Regularly, the cameras would be pointing at the wrong person (they clearly didn’t know which of the singers was Fever Ray), someone’s foot, the ground, a close up of the drum set shaking… it was awful. All we could think of was that the main GV videographers take a long vacation after Coachella/Stagecoach and they had to hire a random vendor that went wrong. The main stage screens had constant filters over the videos that made it super hard to see what was going on (maybe this was intentional to hide that all our fav bands got older 😂).

— At $215, the value of this fest just wasn’t there for us. The sets were good, but adding up how much it would have cost to see the bands we saw individually, it would barely get to $150. Probably would not go again unless the ticket prices drop.
