Hello, I've (27F) been on here a couple years. I had bilateral PEs and a DVT three years ago due to combined birth control, a long flight, and Factor V Leiden; I was on Xarelto for six months and don't take a blood thinner now. I honestly don't have too much residual anxiety from this and I'm grateful for that, but I'm trying to be realistic.
My husband and I would like to start having kids soon; we're going to start trying likely this fall. I am going to be finding a new OBGYN (I've just moved and switched insurances--I am in the US) and meet with them to talk about this, but I wanted to come here first and ask some questions to those have already gone through it. I am apprehensive because all the research I've done seems to show that I will be at a much higher risk for clots while pregnant and postpartum than I ever was on the pill.
If you are a woman who has had a baby after clots, I would really appreciate it you could share your answers or experiences to any of my questions. I know you can't give medical advice, I'm just looking for experiences!
- I am not currently on any blood thinner. Will my doctor say that I should be on Lovenox during my pregnancy? If they don't say I should be, am I allowed to say that I want to be? Would it make sense for me to want this? Will they say yes or no or give me a choice?
- Were you on Lovenox during your pregnancy? What was the experience like? If you got a choice, were you glad you chose to be on it? Did you get it just for the pregnancy or are you a lifer?
- What kinds of complications could I experience in pregnancy as a product of my history? (you won't scare me--I'm trying to be realistic)
- What questions should I ask my OBGYN? What do you wish you would've asked your doctor before getting pregnant?
Thank you so much for reading. There is no article on pregnancy in the wiki, which is why I decided to post. I am trying to balance knowing I should be okay with also knowing that if I get another clot, I will be on blood thinners for life, which is obviously daunting. I appreciate this community!
