Are there any Sequential Compression Devices for home use? Is a massaging device a good alternative?
Post Body

Hi everyone,

As defined in this page's Wiki, Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs) use a machine and squeeze the legs or feet gently. These also help with blood flow. They need to be on as much as possible to help prevent clots.

As far as I've seen, they are usually used in hospitals but they don't appear to be widely available for home use. I'm thinking that the main reason might be the high cost of such machines.

I tried to browse for similar devices and I have found, for example, this Compression Leg Massager with good reviews. It is being advertised as a blood & lymphatic circulation therapy system. It's not cheap though and also, I don't know how beneficial can be for clot prevention since, if I'm not wrong, SDCs apply pressure in a way that stimulates the blood flow towards the upper body. I doubt that a massager like this one does that.

I have also found this cheaper alternative, a Pressotherapy Massager, that is also advertised as a blood flow stimulator.

What is your overall opinion/knowledge on Sequential Compression Devices? Are there any reasonably priced ones for home use? What about Massaging devices similar to the ones listed above? Is anyone using something similar or they can be contraindicated unless approved by a physician?
