So I just got finished listening to OTST for the first time since reading Diamantine and it got me thinking that attunements may be set up to change and evolve in more than just the normal mana threshold way (60 Carnelian, 360 Sunstone, etc.), and those other ways are how ascended attunements are created. We have an example of an ascended attunement and one possibly on the way to becoming ascended Antonia Hartigan (Meltlake?) and Sera. In Antonia's case we know that she is an Elementalist and has at least one extra line on her attunement to signify her specialization in fire magic and many believe that she is ascended because she demonstrates abilities a normal Elementalist presumably couldn't do like creating a simulacrum. Then there is Sera who we know for a fact has a ascended attunement, the Invoker. Now the question is how did she ascend her attunement? I think that when she drank the primer solution and it changed to match the mana of her contracts, her attunement registered it as her trying to take in a bunch of mana from her contracted monsters and it changed accordingly to either help facilitate the proces or in response to the process, but she still took in more mana than her body and attunement could handle hence losing all functionality of her attunement also the physical and mana scarring.
