Post Body

I don't know about other countries, but here in America we are scientifically illiterate as fuck. Trying to get people to understand simple and basic scientific concepts is a nightmare and when you think you've gotten through to people, it takes our opposition 5 seconds to destroy it all.

When you are talking to people about the environment, make it real for them. That's what our opposition does. They tell people what they're gonna lose IMMEDIATELY. Not 5 years from now. 10 years from now. Within the next 6 months.

I think I've had more success convincing people of different life style and social changes by simply telling them there is an alternative way we can do things that make more sense, costs less money and materially benefits their lives.

Think about it like this. Both sides are using fear tactics. Climate Change is saying bad things are gonna happen 5 to 10 years from now. Corporations are telling people the bad people coming to take away their way of life in he near future.

Who do you think is going to win every single time?

Got news for you, climate change isn't working. We've lost the fear mongering fight. We can't scare people into wanting to stop climate change. It's too complicated and requires too much study to understand and we don't have any infrastructure to provide people with means to make meaningful lifestyle changes.

So which do you want? People to understand the science of our climate or change their lifestyles and policies? Well the end goal of people understanding the science is to get them to change their lifestyle and policies so why don't we just address the specific policies instead of wasting time trying to convince adults who have been out of school for decades and probably failed science, to understand CO2 emissions. Not gonna happen.

But if you focus on people's wallets, health and lifestyle, people will be more receptive.

I realized this a while back and it just came back to mind so I figure I toss it back out in the wild before I forget again.
