Bleach kept my white sheet orange?

Long story short - I got self tanner on my white sheets. No biggie cause I figured I’d bleach them and use the “bright whites” cycle on my washer machine. Not only did that not work, what was once a medium size stain is now all over the sheet?! Like random blotches of orange …everywhere?
Why would it do that being washed with bleach? Am I missing something?
