We got an old top loader (2001 Maytag Performa) from a family member for pretty cheap. When we opened it up, we found out why!

Fabric softener has hardened to a thick blue crust in the agitator cup. The bleach dispenser looks like my dad's nostrils when he's got a cold. There seems to be a ring of grease on the inside of the case above the drum.

What was he doing with this machine?!

I'm doing the best I can. So far I've taken a Magic Eraser to evident surface stains, and popped the agitator cup and collar off and am soaking them in hot water and vinegar. I've run a toothbrush around any spaces I can fit it in, and used a dryer lint brush to floss the agitator holes at the bottom. I dumped some Affresh in and ran a load. I'm still getting lint boogers and finding new, icky horrors with every layer I knock off.

It seems to be in good condition other than being gross. Any tips on cleaning this thing?
