So I have a friend who has bad mental health and has been living in a VERY messy/dirty home for years as it was too much for him. He's been getting better and trying to keep cleaner but he's starting from a huge mess and I think it would be easier for him to maintain/clean if it wasn't so much from the get go.
All that to say I'm thinking of hiring him a cleaner to help get him kind of to baseline. I'm in the US Midwest. I've never hired a cleaner before but I read that some won't do work like this, they do the more standard maintenance stuff, or they charge more for dirty homes.
Personally I don't really get this, if you're paid to clean for 3 hours what's the difference? It's still three hours of cleaning but what do I know, I'm not a cleaner.
Basically I'm looking for any advise you all can give me from someone who has hired a cleaner or is one. How do I go about finding a good service? What should I prep them with? What should I expect?
I'm not looking for a regular cleaning person, just one or two shifts to help out and hopefully get him back to where he'd be comfortable.
I struggle with depression and keeping the house clean. I have a small house, under 2000 sq ft. It took the cleaner 6 hours just downstairs, which is all we wanted anyway.
It was much easier for me to keep clean from there, but every month I have her come back for 4 hours of the deeper stuff, especially mopping. I hate mopping.
Overall it's been worth it for me!
