The Deadly Assassin Is So Close To Perfection, But:

Post Body

The first two episodes set up an amazing plot of intrigue and tension. Having the Doctor alone increases the stakes, in the environment of Gallifrey where most everyone is at his throat. All of the side characters are interesting, and The Master is back! Caveat: episode 3 is way way too drawn out. I enjoy the highlights of the matrix, but the hunter and hunted game goes on way too long, and takes away from an otherwise near perfect story. Once he’s out of the matrix, it picks back up for a great conclusion. I just really wish so much of episode 3’s screen time wasn’t filled with mindless running around in the matrix, when there is a lot of really good story to be told. Usually the more mindless episodes don’t bother me, but in a story this good, it stands out as being a poor use of time. Thoughts? Even with that being said, The Deadly Assassin has moved into the number two spot on my list!
