Post Body

Modern/Retro royale has always been a temporary event. Was wondering whether modern royale could be made a permanent one, in the form of ladder. This will be a mode which is unlocked after reaching 4k trophies, with separate rankings/trophies etc. For popular card games such as MtG and hearthstone, they actually retire old cards/sets in standard mode to make way for new cards/sets, thus keeping the meta fresh. On the other hand, there will be legacy/eternal mode which allow all cards in the game.

The purpose of introducing modern royale ladder is to keep the player base and prevent stale meta. At times, players start quitting the game because they lost interest of playing just 8 out of the 92 cards in the game. The constant balance update sometimes affect f2p players greatly as well, for instance the 3M nerf. While the goal is to ensure a perfect balance to all cards, there will always be chance that your cards get 'over' nerfed or buffed. This creates the bias in CR where players are concern of cards buff/nerf to their own advantage. Modern royale ladder introduction serves to address this bias-ness as players will now be able to play competitively with any 'modern' cards in the modern royale ladder. While some may argue that we already have many new game modes, but they are temporary and more of casual play. Utimately, Ladder is still the main game mode in CR.

I guess the point of concern for CR would be the time needed to max cards, thus making 'modern' mode impossible in CR. One way is to restrict Modern Royale to a level 11 cap only, thus making it easier to level up the cards for competitive play, while older card will get rotate out timely. Placing level 11 cap instead of tournament standard will put a minimal requirment for players to 'upgrade' in order to play competitvely, and at the same time keeping CR economy going. This 'Modern Royale ladder' mode should eventually replace the standard ladder which aims to keep meta fresh and adding another reason for upgrading and playing around with more cards in the game. Every month, a new card will be introduced while an old card will be retired from the Modern Royale (Likewise, if a new win condition is introduced, an old win con should be retired).

The beneficial works both way, towards Supercell and the players. For SC, the cards interaction are all in place, there's really not much development required apart from restricting certain cards and duplicating a new ladder. For players, especially the f2p, it makes you excited in new card releases because you no longer have the mindset that this new cards won't concern me because i won't ever be able to max it.
