Anyone else feel like they just abandoned star levels and masteries?

I think these 2 features have so much potential and feel way more rewarding than level 15 or evolutions. Moreover, there are plenty of cards that have been in the game since forever yet they only have 1 star level or 6 mastery tasks. Is it really that hard to make fun little things for the players to grind for?
