How do you counter a hero that 1 shots every 2-3 seconds? (Monk)

Pretty much the title, just looking for advice.
Started playing a couple days ago and I've plateaued around 1,000 crowns. During the climb I noticed a relatively healthy variety of heroes being used and players grasping their strengths.
If you can't answer the title, what are some of the best pieces of advice you've received that helped you the most when playing that you can offer to players?
