Hello, I'll be playing Maslanka Symphony 4 later in the year. Years ago I played it on bass clarinet, but now I am on a Bb clarinet part, so I have to deal with the baby sound section of the piece here.
It asks for players to take of their barrel and use their finger to alter the pitch starting on a concert B, moving to concert C and some other notes around there.
I physically cannot get those notes out. Putting my finger in as far as possible while still making it a sound only lowers it to about Eb, opening my mouth/jaw as much as possible only helps lower it another half step or whole step. And they want me to go down three more half steps than that.
If anyone else has played this piece or knows how to manipulate playing with just the barrel that would be helpful. I feel like maybe my mouthpiece could be an issue, it's a Selmer Focus which has a relatively small tip opening, but I would really rather not change my whole setup for this.
