Coincidentally, Key are doing Publisher Sale on Steam this week as I writing this (21/4-27/4). Most titles are discounted. If you want to enjoy some of these title on PC, now is a very good time to get it.

With all the hype going with Kaginado as we finally can get a brand new Clannad material for the first in 12 years (although with the visual novels localised only later), I believe I should share about other franchises that is involved with Kaginado as well since we are in Clannad subreddit and everyone should know all of these title also.

As you can see, the titles confirmed (at least for now) is Kanon, AIR, CLANNAD, Planetarian, Little Busters and Rewrite. If some of us might know, all of these shared the same character designer which is Hinoue Itaru (others not stated right now is from Na-Ga, although some of the titles has his designs as well). All of them came from their own VNs-all available in English officially or unofficially and has their respective anime adaptation as well.

While it is not compulsory to binge all of them, it is good to know them all and at least know every title background and story lore before the premiere in October. Here's a brief general information about all the titles, with links to respective MAL and VNDB articles about them (note that spinoffs like Kud Wafter, unless involved, are not mentioned).

Kanon

The VN: first ever VN from Key in 1999 (vndb). The VN is not officially localised, but has been translated for long since 2008 by NDT. Do note that Kanon VN is 18 , although there are all ages versions as well.

Anime: has 2 anime adaptation which is by de facto is the first title to be adapted with a 13 episode 1 OVA (Kazahana) by Toei in 2002. But of course we know 2006 24-episode Kyoani version is superior.

AIR

VN: (vndb) Is released in 2000, also has no official localisation. Has both 18 and all ages versions as well, with 2 fan translation variant to choose from for English translation.

Anime: The first ever anime adapted by Kyoani in 2005 with 12 episode 1 recap 2 OVA (Air in Summer). But alternatively has another movie by Toei in the same year as well

Planetarian

VN: (vndb) Released the same year as CLANNAD (2004), received a localisation in Steam by Sekai Project. Pretty short as it is a kinetic novel (no choice at all)

Anime: has a variant of adaptation and expansion. Chiisana Hoshi no Yume net series adapts the VN directly, Hoshi no Hito movie expands the title with some continuation, Snow Globe OVA acts as a prequel of the series.

Little Busters!

VN: Is first released in 2007 (vndb), with extensions added in Ecstasy release in 2008. Received a PC localisation release on Steam as well as Nintendo Switch. Except for PC 2008 Ecstasy release which is 18 , other versions are all ages, with releases post Ecstasy only removed the H-scenes but retained the extra content.

Anime: Has a 2 season TV-series by JC Staff, with format similar to those of CLANNAD with the first season with 26 episode 1 OVA, and Refrain as a second season with 13 episode. Another 8-episode OVA series, EX adds on to the story with extra route adaptation, but EX isn't a chronological release.

Rewrite

VN: (vndb) Released in 2011 and is all ages for all release. English localisation of Rewrite (latest version) by Sekai Project is pending (expected to release somewhere this year), but in the meantime Amaterasu Translation fanpatch is available for original version.

This is the first VN not written by Jun Maeda as Romeo Tanaka takes the role as main writer (he wrote VNs like Cross Channel and Yume Miru Kusuri) and assisted by other writers like Key frequent Tonokawa Yuuto and also the legendary When They Cry series writer, Ryu07.

Anime: has a 2 season "adaptation" by 8bit. While it supposed to be an adaptation, it dont really follow much the VN for the first half, but the second season follows the Moon and Terra route of the VN.
