I've just filed a ticket with the hoster that the hard drive may be failing, since the kernel gave me a lot of issues with breaking sectors and broken files. I really hope this didn't corrupt any backups.
Hoster is now running some tests on the hard drive and will replace it in case it's really dying. The server will be down for that duration.
