Roads in Columbia: a libertarian's proposal
Post Body

As many are well aware, the Columbian government has been dissolved and no functional one has been reestablished. A few have asked that I provide my suggestion on what to do regarding the roads in Columbia. I propose complete privatization of the roads in Columbia through private law.

First, the roads were built by a few individuals, notably Foofed, Dossier5, and rdhayes06. (There are more road-builders, but I can't recall who they are at this time.) These road-builders are the earliest owners of the roads, which they may or may not have individually transfered to the Columbian government. Now that the Columbian government is gone, it is not clear who owns the roads. If none other person can demonstrate ownership or a particular road, then the road-builder is the likely owner.

While the above is a simple solution in the short-term, we must nevertheless recognize that someone may claim that they own some portion or all of the roads in Columbia. Thus, a method of resolving such a dispute over ownership is desirable. Without a government court system to use, one must use a private method; this is private law.

Already the roads are de facto owned by someone, but it is not necessarily clear who owns what roads. It is not possible to predict how cases will be decided, nor if any cases will be made regarding roads. However, it is entirely possible to sue someone in a private court, such as Pharsalus's arbitration company.

This is my suggestion: if you think you are teh owner of some amount of road in Columbia, and someone else uses or modifies that road against your will, then take it to a private court. Work it out in a peaceful and non-confrontational manner. I am confident that this non-monopolistic approach to law will result in an orderly environment in Columbia.

This is a manifold opportunity that players on Civcraft need only take. Law students, economists, political activists, and philosophers each have an opportunity; they need only take action. So long as it is done voluntarily and in an orderly manner, I am confident that players will solve the confusion regarding roads in Columbia. A government has caused confusion; it is up to you to dispell that in the present freedom.

Edit: Added rdhayes06.
