What I mean is, can we have the compactor and de-compactor do some of the crafting tasks we hate doing in bulk, and give us a way to return materials used for certain items?
Allow the compactor to accept snowballs, nuggets, ingots, rabbit skins, bones, redstone/glowstone dust, and various other items ... and output the crafted vanilla versions of these items.
Allow the de-compactor to uncraft various blocks that currently can't be crafted this way. Such as: prismarine blocks to shards, sea lanterns to prismarine crystals, bricks (block) to bricks (item), polished 1.8 stones back into their "raw" form, sandstone into sand (keeping factory balance ratio), colored wool and clay back into white/hardened forms, glowstone blocks into EXACTLY 4 dust, iron bars/minecarts/cauldrons into ingots, quartz blocks into quarts (item), etc
I could go on and on, but there is quite a bit of room for both these machines to do more than serve as a speed-bump to top level tiered machines and item packaging.
I think with a few extra recipies added, these could serve as a type of recycling depot, for nations so inclined or for people who end up with an odd number of iron bars in chests when they really want the iron back.
