[Serious]Free Speech and Common Courtesy: A Rebuttal.

Post Body

So by now, most if not all of you have seen this

I dont want to trivialize that post, because I think protected speech is something we could stand to talk about, but I also want to set the record straight.

First things first

I am Aaycoth, one of the most popular lawyer/mediators in Aeon. I have an immense love for the law, specifically the interpretation of it. I have had many laws rewritten because of the easily skirted loopholes within, and as such, I am privy to an intimate knowledge with the inner workings of the Aeon law system.

What Happened

Salientgreen and Nes were pearled because of an active bounty, nothing more, nothing less. The entire situation was resolved in minutes. I don't know why it blew up like it did.

Here's the problem

Nes has based almost his entire argument on a few falsehoods, some that seem to need explaining on here.

Due Diligence

Due Diligence is something people need to do a lot more on Civcraft. Anytime you execute a bounty, or enter a city and talk to people, you are accepting a social contract. Like it or not, thats what is happening. When you execute a bounty, you are expected to know if it is legitimate or not, and when you enter a city, you are expected to know what the atmosphere is, and to be courteous of others in the city.

Bounties

Bounties arent official, they don't have to be legit or anything. In fact, I could put up a bounty on someone for saying that they think we should use wool instead of quartz in the rail line. The thing is, anyone who decides to execute the bounty, needs to understand why the bounty is up, and what the repercussions will be, like, is the bounty unreasonable, do they live in a city that doesn't allow bounty hunting etc. These are things everyone should take into mind when hunting.

Cities and Common Courtesy

There is a huge misunderstanding going on right now, that Cities are taking away my free speech and that Cities pearled me for breaking laws. No city, as far as I know, has a police force, or a military, designed to uphold laws. The people that pearl rule breakers and asshats in cities are usually citizens, not some crazy executor of the state's will as some believe. These are the same people who ask you to leave town when you're being an asshat, like spouting racist drivel, or putting snowmen everywhere even though it's not even Christmas time. These are ordinary people, nothing more, nothing less. So don't go around pissing people off, then wonder why you are being asked to leave cities.

Respecting Strangers

Look, I get it, it's easy to ignore that someone sits on the other side of the screen. It's easy to forget that not everyone has the exact same ideals as you. It's also easy, however, to not intentionally be a dick. I think the biggest culprits are those who come from other servers or other places, and settle together in one city, its hard to remember that not everyone here is from hcf, or Kohi or Bergecraft or 4chan. But you should have the decency to not be blatantly disrespectful when in the presence of strangers, something I think everyone does in real life. Because both IRL and on Civcraft, there are consequences for breaking the social norms, and pissing people off. Just remember next time you wander into a town you've never been to, that it might not be ok to say racist or indignant things.

End Rant

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I hope it can stimulate some healthy discussion. I have a few hours before work, and I will do my best to continue the conversation below in the comments.
