Too often I see people going "Oh no the server is going to shit everyone just wants to coolpvp all the time." What people don't realize is saying that just contributes to the problem. It discourages people from trying to solve the problem. If you want to have a fun, political, non-coolpvping atmosphere go create one. The Eastern Bloc still makes laws, organizes meetings, has border disputes, and even a few cold wars. That's proof enough the spirit of the server is still alive in plenty of places. In Hjaltland there is a great group of friends who do amazing feats of production together and still has a fun atmosphere. Newfriends are still making towns and succeeding to some extent, Btstewart's little town is going on fine. Montarnis/Olympia is still chugging along even if we are on life support.
The reason is they keep trying. Sandfalls has never thrown up his arms and said "Welp the EB's going to shit might as well abandon it," he has always continued even through the hard times. Btstewart hasn't yet said "It's slowing down the town can't make it" because that is the one thing that would surely kill it. The point is that it's the same thing for the server. I still log in every day to greet newfriends and build some infrastructure. The deadliest thing to any kind of community is when people start giving up when it's clearly salvageable. If you are tired of the coolpvp, or the drama, or whatever is tiring you, nothing is stopping you from creating your own civcraft community. It's been done before and it still can be done, unless we all throw up our arms and quit because of some setbacks or some bad apples.
tl;dr: Keep a stiff upper lip and the shit will pass.
Edit: Noticed a ton of people getting downvoted in the comments for no reason, please don't.
