I am getting rather tired of all the threads saying "Oh well we don't have evidence because they took out the snitches too." "Probably xrayed the snitches, cheaters" etc. etc. This can be prevented. You can make your security almost completely bulletproof without that much effort:

1) Snitches have a range of 11 in a cuboid. Orebfuscator only reveals chests closer than I think 6 (maybe 7?). This means a snitch can be outside of xray range but in snitching range of your stash. take advantage of this. And the number of blocks in that in-between "shell" of blocks is HUGE and VERY difficult to search all of.

2) You should use more than one snitch to cover your valuables. In a basic sense, this can increase your simple odds of having one intact, but you can also effectively use it improve your chances beyond simple fractions... Imagine the robber is xraying -- and they see a jukebox "carelessly" placed just 3 blocks directly under the chests, or something. "Haha, idiot" they think as they dig it up and walk away confident of no records of their crime. But then you had another one 8 deep and 6 to the side... which they didn't bother even looking for because you gave them false confidence. Basically you spent 1 diamond to convince them to stop searching hard enough, and now you've got them.

Another powerful strategy is to place one juke in range of the chest, and then another juke OUT of range of the chest but in range of the first juke, and then maybe even a third (if it's a valuable stash) in range of THAT, etc. Unless they find the ENTIRE chain of them, you will know who it was from them showing up on one as having broken another, at the very least. And every time you add one to the chain out of radar range but inside snitch range, you're adding literally thousands of blocks of possible ground for them to search.

You can (and should) even combine these. One obvious juke, another two in range but out of xray, and one backup in a chain from one of those. An temporary investment of 4 diamonds is NOTHING if you're storing, say, a set of prot worth 130d... think about it. Unless they dig a titan-sized hole under your house, you WILL catch them with that.

3) Always make sure these juke chains or individual jukes go off in unpredictable diagonals, not just straight in any cardinal direction, especially down, from a chest or another juke. So for example, 8 down, 5 east, and 3 south. Not just 8 east or a few down.

4) Remember to put them all somewhere that's easy to walk within range of to stop them from culling every 2 weeks. This includes caves near your stash, rail lines, etc., though, not just the surface (which if you only relied on that would narrow the search range to find jukes)

5) Not quite a snitch tip, but it magnifies the snitch tips' effectiveness: put your most valuable things in dropchests in the middle of unmarked locations with NO nearby landmarks like in a field or underwater or whatever. Think along the lines of a "walk 17 north of my front door, 15 west, and dig" sort of thing. NOT "under the big tree"

Not only does this make it impossible to guess the spot, but if it's in a non-landmarked location in a field, then it is also aastronomically incriminating if somebody digs it up, that they pretty much had to have been xraying. If it's under the big tree, then it isn't obvious they were xraying at all.

Combine the "no landmarks" rule with the other tips like an xray invisible juke, or a chain of jukes... and you can almost guarantee you will 1) find out who it is and 2) they will have an ironclad case for banning them when you do, if somebody digs it up.

6) make sure nobody observes you during any of this. Get a mod like journeymap and turn on player radar up to the full allowed range that the vanilla client can see people in. And watch out of the corner of your eye. If you see anybody on it while you're building your network, scrap it and start over elsewhere another time. Do not fudge this, or you compromise your security and your ban arguments and everything.

7) Consider putting all of the redundant/chained snitches beyond the first one on a separate group so that you can mute them and not get annoyed by 5 messages every time a person walks by your house.
