I'd like to investigate further into some of the etymologies of certain civcraft words we take for granted and use every day, as I think their origins might show us interesting history in the server.
Some of the terms that are interesting but known:
-"Pearling" comes from the PrisonPearl plugin: a verb (to pearl) was created for the action of imprisoning someone in a prison pearl, instead of the existing verb (to imprison) being used.
-"Combat Logging" from the root term "logging" of the verb "to log" (a very generalized verb that evolved from the proto-gaming term "to log out [of a game]"). It has its roots in the Combat Timer plugin, and started to be used in Civcraft after the implementation of said plugin. The verb "to combat log was the result of a precision shift from the "to log" form.
-"DRO", under verb form "to DRO", has its roots in the Citadel plugin permitting reinforcement of blocks. Diamond reinforced obsidian is the most difficult reinforcement to break, and the application of diamond reinforced obsidian shifted to verb form, away from more generalized "Reinforcement grief" (only attested once in a distant cousin of civcraft, the reddit server.
Then there are some that are interesting but not documented, such as the Griefer/gerfer split:
-"Gerfing", a derivative of the word "griefing", directly descended from the proto-gaming "to grief", used extensively in Minecraft to symbolize destruction of property. The shift from "griefing" to "gerfing", however, is unknown, although "gerfing" is widely attested on Civcraft although not on other minecraft servers.
I'd be curious to see people bring up other terms that are unique to Civcraft and that have evolved in curious ways to make very Civcraft-specific terms
