How Operation: Olive Garden should be carried out...
Post Body

Rather than have a battle with cities trying to drop unlimited breadsticks on Carbon and the Carbonites fighting back, it should be handled in a much more subtle, 1984-esque way.

I remember in high school playing a computer simulation of 1984 after reading the book. Basically, each person was given an identity, either citizen, rebel or enforcer, and then told to try and carry out their goals. Enforcers tried to find and capture the rebels (without capturing innocent citizens in the process), rebels were trying to convert as many citizens into rebels (without being captured), and citizens could either join the rebels or turn rebels trying to convert them into the enforcers for a small reward.

I'm assuming the people know who the enforcers and the rebels are in Carbon, with the rest of the server being citizens essentially. The trick to the game was not revealing your secret identity though, and still accomplishing your goals.

I propose that Operation: OG be carried out like the computer game, only that a few select people from each side, rebels (Bread party) and enforcers (Carbon's government) become moles inside their organization and start working for the others. This will create paranoia on both sides as no one can be trusted. An enforcer disguised as a rebel could lie to a citizen that they're taking them to the Bread Party HQ, only to lead them an isolated place for a beating and pearling. Rebels could pretend to be informants and accuse innocent citizens of rebel activity to get the suspicion off their backs. With one outside person essentially taking the role of DM, they could designate who becomes moles, and really everyone's role, and then watch the games unfold.

I'm not sure if people like this idea or not, but if there's enough support I'd love to see it take place. People from outside Carbon can then join in on either side, perhaps even become double agents, as the two opposing forces fight for the control of the populace.

Let me know what you think. Thanks! :D

EDIT: /r/OperationOliveGarden is a go. If anyone would like to run it particularly I can add you as a mod. I'll post my ideas of how the game will work on the sub in a bit.

EDIT NUMERO DOS: A brief explanation from my victory conditions thread on why it'd be a good idea to have set victory conditions:

Without set victory conditions, we can assume what people would make the default victory conditions: Controlling Carbon. Enforcers would do this by pearling people indiscriminately, rebels would do this by pearling enforcers until they were the only ones who remained. This would just be another Farley War with slightly different circumstances.

I'm thinking this way the game is played with an element of paranoia, deceit and strategy. Your value is not based on how fast you can click your mouse or shoot a bow, but on your charisma and your ability to read people's intentions. Detective skills, lying, and above all brains becomes the focus of the game, and the cunning prevail.

The winner is not who is strongest, but smartest. :)

Thanks again! :D
