In the beginning, the earth was lifeless and restless. In madness and without comfort, he heaved great mountains from his body, and cut great oceans and rivers in his flesh. For thousands of years he moved restlessly and violently, tossing and turning in his nightmare. The high cliffs are a reminder of our earth father's torment in the early days.

The mother sun saw his pain, and offered her own gentle warmth and light to give him company. He felt her rays on him, and was slowly calmed. While she could never see his heart, and he could never rise to meet her, through the surface of the world they show their care for one other.

Where the sun struck the earth father, life emerged to celebrate their union. Grass spread over the surface, trees grew up towards their mother, and pigs, cows and chickens appeared from the union of sun and earth. Thus during the day, life emerges from the earth, and during the night true life rests. Those who have seen such life appear, as if from nothing, have been witness to the miracle of the union.

The earth father loves the mother sun for giving him such a wealth of life, and produces likenesses of her image from his body. Deep in the earth, he moulds gold in the image of her face, and diamonds to catch and play with her light. These are his offerings to her, and are meant to be seen by the sun.

During the night, the father is lonely for the sun, and must be comforted by the life brought forth between them. This is the first lesson - during the night, we must bring the products of their union to him - seeds, leaves, and all living things, and cast them in to the fiery blood deep in his body. Thus we can remind him that she will come again at dawn.
