Post Body

I have been playing Civcraft for 2 years now, and I have noticed a feature all cities share. It’s something that seems to be intrinsic about how we organize. I have noticed most about all large cities regardless of their ideology all cities have a group of dedicated long-term players. These core players essentially make the cities function without them most cities fail. Core players are typically easy to recognize in any city, they are politicians or in other places of power, and in anarchist cities they are a go to person that is well respected. Most cities decisions are heavily influenced by their opinions. They tend to know everyone which is one of the best ways to find one.

Historically when the core players move to a new city or quit the city dies. Not instantly it usually takes a month or two. A good example of this was the city of Lazuli which died when many of its core players left/quit. Over the next few weeks the population gradually moved to other cities. Another good example of this would be the city of Liberty which shared a similar fate.

I wrote this because of two very interesting events on the server the first is Zombie_lenin_’s exodus from the server. He was the central figure in New Leningrad. With his departure there is a vacuum left, that if not filled will cause the city’s collapse. It will be interesting to see new Leningrad’s solution to this issue. Hopefully, they will not fade in to history

The other interesting event is the recent change of the guard in Aurora many of the old core players were recently displaced by new group of core players. This is interesting because this happens so very rarely. I will be following the city’s drama closely to see how it pans out with the loss of several core players.

It seems that the former core members of Aurora have decided on two courses of action. First is to move to another city (Orion). In Orion they will be given their own section of the city and a fresh start politically. The second solution was to found the kingdom of eclipse. By founding a new nation they do not need to fit in to an existing power structure. However there is a great risk that between members that stayed in Aurora and members that Moved to Orion there will not be large enough group of active members to make a sizable city. Of-course if they do not want to make a large city this should be a non-issue.

tl;dr: read it.
