Admins have taken the position that use of World Downloader is perfectly legal, but players should intuitively understand what the right uses are based on an intuitive sense of fairness.

It seems to me that in the very same way the radar clients are allowed, but without any description of proper use.

If one uses radar to dig down to someone underground, it seems to me that one is using it in a way that is "functionally identical" to x-ray use, in the view of Tactful. This use should clearly fall under clause 2. of the codified policies.

I am certain that there have been hundreds of cases in the history of CivCraft where radar, as a tool, has been misused in similar way to how we "misused" World Downloader as a tool. All the people using it in this way should be careful if they don't want to be banned.

Just as my understanding of the server was that anyone who does a serious raid of someones vault downloads and explores it, it is my understanding that when the radar tool provides information about players deep underground, players will act on it. It turns out that none of this is true, even if a mod meant to provide extra information is allowed, it is the responsibility of the player to predict which subset of that information is actually appropriate for use in order to avoid a ban.

It is therefore a possibility that admins will start banning particularly for going towards players who are underground with radar, branding this as a misuse of an allowed tool. It seems this is a distinct possibility based on several of Tactful's statements.

This post is just a warning, anyone can be at any time banned for "misusing" radar by doing something like finding people underground with it. You can use the mod, but you must ignore the portion of extra information it gives you which is "unfair". If you don't have the same kind of intuition for fairness as Tactful, you may not know how to use radar correctly, even though the mod is allowed, so please be careful.
