Hello, citizens of Yoahtl! The new Charter is in place and the council needs electing. To those of you planning on running, please announce your candidacy (and platforms if you so desire) in replies to this thread.
On Friday, I will open the Debate Thread. Here, all active candidates will post a top-level reply, and citizens (and other candidates) may pepper them with questions and argue policies, etc etc. The debate period will run through the weekend and close midnight on Sunday, at which point the thread will be locked.
Voting will begin next Monday, and run for 3 days or until all registered Yoahtlan voters have voted.
Council Responsibilities and Info
To be eligible for the post of Councillor, a player must be a Yoahtlan citizen and a resident of one of Yoahtl's various towns. They must have completed the census form from Kjartan_Aurland's recent post, and should be in good legal standing (ie not currently pearled or exiled).
Councillors propose and vote on legislation of national scope, and must also vote on initiatives advanced by the citizenry that have met the threshold for council consideration.
Councillors vote to ratify or reject treaties with foreign powers.
Councillors act as judges, resolving disputes that are brought to them in accordance with Yoahtlan criminal and civil law. They have free reign in deciding the procedures in their own court, so long as they follow the codified standard of evidence and allow both parties in a trial to argue their case.
Councillors vote on proposed amendments to the national charter.
Council term length is 2 months. The next election cycle will begin on September 27th.
