It's hard to say where it started. Illness was nothing new to the people of the world. If one man or even ten come down with a mysterious ailment, you hope or pray for their health, but life goes on. Perhaps it is this blasé reaction to sickness that allowed the plague to worm its way into so many populations.
In the bustling adolescent city of Starburst, the plague seemingly exploded into life overnight. Scores of people came down with violent illness, and most terribly, the majority were the youngest among the population. Red sores covered the skin, and the fevers of the patients drove them into fitful restless sleep. Violent coughing fits, some of which began to bring blood forth from the mouth, were characteristic of most of the ill in the city. Every day, the number of ill mounted by an alarming amount, and soon the earliest of the infected began to pass away in pain.
The illness followed Glimmer's citizens anywhere they lived, though Starburst, Owowatis, and the villages of New Glimmer were hit hardest. Curiously, while the Silvonians also contracted the disease, they did so in much lesser numbers. Though New Glimmer was wise enough to keep all ships bound for glimmer in port, it wasn't enough. Apparently the disease had been with Glimmer's men longer than they had known, and had already made it to the mainland. As of now, the disease has begun to spread through the eastern Burgs of Glimmer, and though not yet a full plague in other states, any trade partner of Glimmer has the beginnings of the plague in their largest cities.
Meanwhile, the plague has also been contracted by the citizens of Nexus. In the Ruaumoko islands, the disease has torn through native and Nexian populations alike, decimating the populations of all Nexus-established cities within weeks, showing no signs of stopping. The mainland nation of Nexus is also feeling the effects of the plague, as will their trade partners in due time, as the illness has already begun to spread.
The citizens of Albion are currently free of the disease, but it is not unreasonable to expect it to infect them from either the west of Albion or the south of Karland.
OOC: The plague, called Human Rinderpest until someone creates an in character name, is a virulent disease akin to measles. This disease is airborne, spread through the violet coughing and sneezing infected individuals are subjected to. No nation in character should be able to know this.
NOTE: no civ was targeted for this plague. The first civilizations to have extended contact with goat-using civilizations recieved the plage. Don't worry, you won't be the only ones hit. This plague crossed over from goats to the new world residents of Silvonia centuries ago, so the majority of those populations are now immune. Any Argent Ocean islanders and Old World peoples will be susceptible to this disease.
