The conservation above with crimeo is in regards to bloodidiot and I looting the nation of Yamato about 3 weeks ago. I initially didn't recall this raiding event and had to do some digging in screenshots to jog my memory. We were there for a couple of hours, broke some chests here and there, finding not much of value excluding some stamina and other misc items. We didn't greif or destroy anything besides the chests we broke. After we were done, we left the city without any conflict. However, due to Yamato not attacking us beforehand we are bad guys who should not only be pearled, but also indefinitely banned!
From the very beginning of CivCraft 1.0, the main idea of the Civ genre was to conduct an experiment where the players were left to govern themselves. No rules besides don't cheat/harass... and no admin intervention unless it was absolutely unavoidable. Don't like what someone is doing or how they are choosing to play? That's awesome, go and pearl them! The power is yours. Your ender pearl is the equivalent of /ban and you are free to use it however you see fit.
While we can all agree that choosing to raid/steal is definitely not a well-liked idea among players, it is still a Civ play style. Sure, people will dislike you and do everything in their power to prevent you from continuing to play by pearling you... but that is just fine. The choice is yours. That's what a Civ server is for. Conflicts happen, people get pearled, stuff gets stolen, cities get flattened; but life goes on.
Contrary to popular belief, USA's goal was not to kill the server. (It seems someone else already has this handled). The main goal was to break Carbon vaults one by one, and pearl everyone who tried to defend. Upon winning the war, pearls were to be released. In actuality the server's player count was at its highest during these conflicts. But unfortunately, we are no longer in the days of ttk2's "let the players play" stance on administrating a server. For the past couple of months the abrupt rules changes have been nothing frustrating for myself and I can only imagine it has been for others as well.
This server stopped being a "Civ" server long ago. Sure, all the plugins are there...the familiar names. But the ever increasing amount admin intervention showed me that we have swayed very very far from what we intended in the beginning of Civ. When you have to provide proof and deductive reasoning to the administration for every single action you do in game that can be looked down upon... you are no longer letting the players govern themselves. If I wanted to march into MTA unprovoked and just start swinging at everything that moves and steal everything I possibly can, I should be able to make that decision on my own without having to later justify myself to an admin to avoid getting banned. The only risk that should apply in this situation is me getting myself pearled by another player. Ya know... the intended mechanics of the server.
Thanks for reading and I would like to thank you all for the great times on this server. As many others have said, the Yggdrasil vault conflict a few days ago was without a doubt the most fun I have had on this game in a while. See you all in the next iteration on hopefully better terms!
TL;DR: Supposed bad but crimeo badder
