Jeruk was on the sea. Behind him, his canoes of spearmen. Five hundred had fallen in taking Oilfurnaces, but the rest had won their plunder. After the customary looting, Jeruk installed his proxy - a mortal named Lomok or Whumok or Foghith. He was fat and stout, but he did not have the backbone to defy Jeruk.
The fact that his family was on board the ships back to Samar-Samar was an extra incentive to work doubly hard. Jeruk had no patience for defiance. His will was final, and would not tolerate any treachery from lesser beings.
He thought of what to do upon his return. The short mortal Yurest was wise enough to choose the correct option for the paltry price of pigtails, and Jeruk had no wish for the remainder of his nation. Jeruk had already fulfilled the prophecy Krasa had sent him, and besides that Oilfurnaces was an affront to his authority. Slapping down the hand that defied him was crucial. The fact that Oilfurnaces was fertile and prosperous was just... additional reasoning.
And yet, there was more in the Great Ocean than Samar-Samar, Faouk-iue, Yausauk, and Oilfurnaces. East, west, and South, all these paths stretched farther than any horizon. They would need to be made his, one way or another.
South is the way. For now. To the south was A-lēs, perhaps the metal harder than any other could be found.
Yes. 3,500 men on 35 ships would leave Faouk-iue at once. They would find a great isle, and they would make it Jeruk's.
