PEOPLE OF SWAMP CASTLE

Mark Harlow was told his whole life that he was fortunate, for his father had been a great speaker for the mismanaged tribesmen around these lands, and through the power of words (and occasionally warriors) he had managed to build up is power significantly, and when he had died he had passed on all his land to his only child, Mark. But Mark couldn't help but wonder if the land he owned was to delight him or to curse him. Sure, he owned much of the land, he had many soldiers that helped to keep the local bailiffs in line, and had the largest military out of all the small tribes he met thus far.

But he was ruling over a fucking swamp.

All his bone-carved crown served to remind him was that his land was useless. In these early days of the world none of it could be properly farmed, so all they got were a few potatoes and the rest had to be extorted from outside tribes. This of course put the Swamp People at odds with the nomads they bullied, so to protec themselves and to attac them they needed a large military. This in turn was a dilemma, as it resulted in a grotesquely unbalanced amount of men and women, since his father had made it clear that he wanted fighters over housekeepers. They lived next to a large river too, which currently was nameless, but it was useless for trade or sailing on since Swamp Castle did not possess the necessary technology to make those two crafts viable, so they were stuck in Swamp Castle, with enemies around them and not enough women in them.

All in all, Mark realised that a lot needed to be done to turn this castle around.
