Thanks Thymos for the nomination, after a great deal of consideration I've decided to accept and run for the position of NEA Chair.
These were my two major concerns, so I'll address them first -
- Impartiality - I won't pretend I'm not inherently biased towards Fellowship in some way - but it's a bias I can identify, isolate, and do my best to neutralize when it comes to resolving NEA matters. I know I'm capable of viewing the issue as a third party and have done so in the past. I've maintained objectivity in judging/sentences for friends and enemies alike, and am generally pretty good at evaluating the interests at stake and both sides' arguments.
Additionally, I don't feel that NEA interests are likely to conflict very much, if at all, with Fellowship interests. Fellowship's foreign policy interest largely consists of bolstering its alliances with other NEA states. We've never been interested in forcing our ideology on other nations, or in dragging the alliance as a whole into state disputes. I feel like I've done my best to insulate FS drama (Laozi-GW, for one) from affecting the welfare of other NEA states, and think that's a good indicator of my ability to keep these issues separate. We have never spoken for the NEA without prior discussion and consensus, or assumed that our stance will be the NEA stance, and that's a strong precedent that I think I can maintain well.
- Activity level - I'm going to be straightforward and say that I'm actually on hiatus from the game itself. It's too fucking addicting and really gets the best of my little to no self-discipline. But I'm still on reddit and mumble multiple times a day, and am definitely still committed to playing the meta-game. I've read through the Constitution and looked at the duties of the Chair, and I don't think that any of it even calls for in-game play, just the dedication to co-ordinate meetings, discussions, etc. If that's a dealbreaker for you then not much I can do about it, but I genuinely think I can fulfill all the duties required of me.
With that stuff out of the way, here's the main reason I'm running/why I think you should vote for me -
I love the subreddit game. I'm not afraid to jump in with a hundred comments and walls of text, and spend obscene amounts of time winning over anyone whose mind can possibly be changed. I like to think that I'd be a good NEA representative to the rest of the server; I've always tried to be reasonable and think I've done all right with PR-stuff in the past. I'd definitely enjoy acting as NEA spokesperson in the future and would really appreciate if y'all would have me.
TLDR: I'd love to give this a shot and I'm pretty sure I won't fuck it up.
Vote for me, thanks!
