For those unaware, OneDest is a rail routing standard (first implemented in civclassic under the name SARS) that is designed to allow simple /dest
command travel between stations that are part of the system, avoiding many of the drawbacks that were present in previous systems.
Its main selling point is that unlike older approaches, such as KANI, which operated by using an external website/bot to pathfind a series of junction turns to get from point A to B, OneDest instead ditches the need for a pathfinding router altogether in favor of using a logic similar to how irl postal addresses work: each station in OneDest has its own unique universal address (/dest) that will always work regardless of which station in the system you start travel from.
For example Mehri uses /dest ! ,- lyrean mehri
while neighbouring lambat uses /dest ! ,- lyrean lambat
, and farther Lusitania is /dest ! , Medi Lusitania
, just like postal addresses we have a tree system that starts with big regions (quadrants) and then subdivides them into increasingly smaller areas (regions, then nations, then towns), additionally you can also omit parts of an address if you are already within that region (for example if you were traveling between 2 stations in the , you wouldn't need to include , in your command).
As to how to use OneDest for travelling, it can now be easily used through enabling the OneDest stations layer on map.civmc.tk, this will show you every station on the system as an icon on the map, and clicking a station's icon will show you its corresponding unique /dest
in the sidebar.
Finally, for more info on how this whole thing is actually implemented in-game (and how to connect your stations to the system), feel free to visit the OneDest wiki page and the OneDest discord, the discord also has channels for individual rail projects, to facilitate discussion and coordination between different groups in a single place (this even includes projects not part of the OneDest network).
Happy rail routing!
