And no, I don't want the same "because you duped four years ago" response. I want an actual open dialogue on your reasoning, because as far as i can tell it doesn't make any sense. Since the admins refuse to have an open dialogue with me, I'm going to just read their arguments sentence by sentence and deconstruct them"
"We firmly believe your prolific duping on Civclassics qualifies you for a preban. We were just delayed in enacting it because of all the other issues that came up right after launch."
It's not a preban if you forget to do it until a week after launch. Blueballing people like that is a dick move and we both know it.
"Only one out of the corvus dupers ever came clean, which is why we have grave concerns about letting any of that crew play."
I don't even understand the point of this argument. there's nothing to "come clean" to, Everyone knows who was in corvus and therefore who duped. I've told people i duped. It's not like this ban is something shrouded in mystery and sworn to secrecy. But since the admins here have a hard on for confessions, I duped on classics. does that make you happy?
"Why would we have any reason to think you wouldn't do the same thing again?"
First off, unlike every other rule on civ, i can't just pull a new dupe bug out of my ass and start using it. you have to be incredibly lucky to even have a chance to use a dupe bug. I'm not sure why you're so worried about a random player getting lucky again and having a dupe before everyone else.
"one of the people involved was a dev in the Minecraft community who should know better."
What does this have to do with anything? he wasn't involved with the duping. It was a friend I invited and I was showing him the city. Why are you snooping through another server's logs for flimsy evidence that doesn't prove your point?
"You helping on a server should mean you understand how damaging something like prolific duping is, it can ruin an entire server. We've all heard stories of how CivCraft 2.0s economy was ruined by the duped materials which flooded it."
This is what i think the admins are actually the most worried about, that their "economy" will be ruined. remember how the classics economy was ruined by corvus dupers? no? that's because it never fucking happened, nor did anyone in corvus have the intention of ruining the economy. Pretty much all the materials we duplicated stayed within the city. I think maybe one or two thousand diamonds actually left the city, which hardly affected the economy in any way. The admins on civmc are worried that I might commit a crime on civmc that I never even committed on classics in the first place. The reason we duped on classics was because the admins had all but checked out of monitoring the server and the player count was dwindling. We speculated that since the serve was dying, why not utilize a dupe and finish our city before it was gone?
"Conducting a year long dupe operation with hundreds of CS of blocks is not the same as some wiley hijinks"
This is such a hilariously bad take, and a non sequitur at the same time. No one is contesting whether duping is bad. I'm not contesting that duping is bad. What I and others are upset about is that you're holding someone hostage for something they did four years ago when it seems like people have done far worse far more recently and yet they are allowed to play. Doxxing a player is not the same as some wiley hijinks, but apparently if you do it you get promoted to admin. Are you really going to argue that doxxing is somehow more forgivable than duping?
In addition, the fact that we duped for a year before we got caught, and the only reason we got caught was because we were raided, pretty concisely proves that the admins were completely checked out of the server. This is exactly why we did it, not because we wanted to watch classics burn, but because we assumed it was on its way out. The server was at one time near hours away from being deleted, so I think our speculation was valid.
Some other notes:
- I've seen the admins unban people for "good behavior". I played on realms for a year after classics, no problems. played civex for half a year, no problems. spent a year and a half working on a plugin for civ servers. If this doesn't count as "good behavior" then i don't know what does.
- Other corvus players have been able to login and play on their mains, and have so far not been banned or had any issues with the admins. Why am I being singled out? if you're gonna ban us at least be consistent. (I'm not going to list the corvus members because I'm not interested in getting other players banned)
- classics has already lifted our ban for the next iteration. So in other words, the server admins that we wronged are more willing to forgive us than admins who we have done nothing to.
I don't want to drag this through the mud and make a big stink about it, but given the fact that you have no interest in replying to modmail, and seeing as I'm already banned, what do I have to lose?
