Public Appeal for Carter_t23
Post Body

A public Appeal to the Admins.

3 days ago my compatriot and newfriend Carter_t23 received a ban for the stated reasons of racism and antisemitism. He sent a mod mail and after 48 hours didn’t receive a reply. Then he messaged a mod on discord who said that he would bring it up with an admins. It has been 24h since then so we have decided to make this public plea.

On the day of Carter’s ban one of our members messaged a mod who said that this ban is likely permanent. The reason being the use of the word “goy.” They said this word is comparable to the nword. I believe this is a misunderstood comparison due to the context behind the use of the word. Goy - a term used by Jewish people for a non-Jewish person. This is the Google definition. It makes no sense for a non-Jewish person to use this as an insult. Carters use of the word was solely to make fun of antisemitic conspiracies. Respectfully, I do not see why the use of this word in that context is at all deserving of a permanent ban.

Another matter was Carters (admittedly distasteful) attacks on Islam in the chat. The reason that I don’t think a permanent ban is fair is best explained by carter himself - although what he said could be considered as mildly offensive and he does apologize for that, he said nothing that has not already been said / was not actively being said in this server about Catholics and Christianity.

Some of these attacks including use of derogatory names for Christians and recently an accusation that the blessed virgin marry was raped and simply wanted to cover it up using the story of the virgin birth. Now you can make the argument that what Carter said was too far but considering what people said to Carter without consequence his understanding of what was appropriate had been warped.

If they did cross the line and he needs to be penalized for that, he does understand that, but we would like to see these protections being equally applied (which I think is fair), and I don't think a permanent no-contact ban was the right way to go about it.

Now the last issue that I’d like to bring up was the hasty nature of the ban. Carter had been on the server for 2 weeks and had seen and said all sorts of outlandish things without so much as a mute. Nobody was muted or warned in any way before the ban. Carter understands if there needs to be consequences for chat infractions, and admittedly, he was out of line. But I don't think that anything he did or said warrants a permanent ban without any contact from the admins through mod mail or otherwise even after he reached out. It is a simple matter to communicate, and all he asks is for a chance to plead his case before those who made the decision.

“If I had been given a warning I would have stopped immediately, we were all joking around and in the middle of building I was just banned. I didn’t even know what I did.” - Carter_t23

We are humbly asking the mods to consider Carters side. Consider these last 3 days time served and give him a second chance. He has been an overall positive force on the community and has made friends far and wide on the server and he would hate to no be able to play with them.

tldr: asking for admin response about carter ban b/c they did not respond through mod mail or discord
