Global Event: 'Tis the Season?

The season of autumn is drawing to a close, and your people have just finished commemorating their hard work harvesting food for the year with a spooky celebration of tacky disguises, carved pumpkins, and sweet candies. However, not even a mere week after your people have put away their spooky costumes and house decorations have they been spotted around town singing carols about the winter solstice, putting up coloured red and green torches on their houses, and wearing pointy red hats with white fuzzballs on them. After a moment of confusion you consult with your realm's top astrologers, who inform you that the winter solstice is still almost two months away, and thus there isn't any need to start celebrating it for at least another month.

  • Option 1. What kind of uncultured buffoons think that the winter solstice is in November? Clearly we need a re-education campaign to teach our people how to tell time.

  • Option 2. Mere re-education won't cut it; these fools are too far gone. It shall be declared a high crime to partake in winter solstice-related festivities until the solstice is actually near, effective immediately!

  • Option 3. Hey, maybe starting the party early isn't such a bad thing? These joyous carols and festive decorations seem to be raising our people's spirits, and as the saying goes, a happy peasantry is a non-revolting peasantry.

  • Option 4. Decorations, you say? I sense an opportunity to raise revenues by turning this holiday into a commercial event, where the focus is on buying and showing off excessive amounts of decorations, costumes, foodstuffs, and gifts. All that money changing hands is money that the state can take a cut of.

  • Option 5. Spooky harvest festivals? Winter solstices festivities? These are signs of pagan idolatry, and must be purged immediately lest whatever being or beings we worship smite us for our sins!

  • Option 6. Spooky harvest festivals? Winter solstices festivities? My subjects are celebrating something other than my glory? This is basically treason, and they'd better switch from praising harvests and solstices to praising me if they want to keep their heads attached to their necks.
