Barbarian Migrations

Your people have stumbled upon signs of an ancient civilization that once occupied the lands of North Africa. Various ruins of cities, castles, roads, ports, and other clear signs of an advanced society lie just beyond your own city walls, buried under hills, foliage and dunes of sand. Curiously, the ruins seems to be largely intact, with the only damage to them being in the wear and tear of the eons; no signs of warfare, disease, or other thing that might've destroyed their former denizens has been found; none except for the oddly common broken window, egged house, or painted graffiti. Clearly, the people who lived here were hoodlums of some sort, with a fondness for vandalism. But, that all aside, what are you gonna do with these new discoveries?

This event is for Carthage and Liberia.

  • Option 1: Habitable land, you say? Well, this is easy – just dust these ruins off and start putting people in them!

  • Option 2: Loot the ruins for, well, loot! I'm sure there's gold or something in there somewhere, and if not there's at least lots of stone and other more mundane building materials we can expropriate!

  • Option 3: The important thing here is why these ruins ended up uninhabited, and what happened to their former inhabitants. Our historians and anthropologists must scour every nook and cranny for clues!

  • Option 4: That's a stupid question. We already know why they're gone – a curse! We must cordon these ruins off, and never allow any to enter!

Crocs

Along the shores of the Nile your farmers have reported strange findings, strange enough for word of them to make its way to Gondar. They report what seems like a network of ancient burial temples of some sort, with buried treasure, cryptic inscriptions, and, most curiously, lots of crocodiles nesting nearby. Several local villagers have been reported as being eaten by those crocodiles, before local administrators got a hold of things.

This event is for Beta Israel.

  • Option 1: Buried treasure, you say? Time to crack open some tombs and loot the corpses!

  • Option 2: These tombs are clearly dedicated to a heathen god or false idol! We must destroy them to assert Judaism's supremacy over Egypt!

  • Option 3: You say that these crocodiles ate a man whole? That sounds exciting and exotic. Send men to capture some crocodiles and take them to our royal zoo, so we can have some prestigious pets to show off and feed prisoners to.

  • Option 4: What a waste. Clearly, we must massively breed these vicious animals and insert them into our army! As the Liberians have shown us, large predatory animals are the future of warfare!

Footstools

Your explorers have found lots of old footstools hidden in jungle caches. Like, a lot of them, way more than anyone could ever need, and many of them quite expertly constructed and richly decorated. Almost as if footstools were an object of veneration, or something. But that'd be crazy.

This event is for Burundi and Egypt, and the city-state of Ibadan.

  • Option 1: My palace's décor was getting a bit passé. Install the finest of these footstools as new furniture, and distribute the lesser ones amongst my vassals and nobles!

  • Option 2: I have no need for footstools; if my feet are tired I have plenty of other things to lie them on. Sell these footstools for a quick buck, and move on.

  • Option 3: Footstools and no other signs of civilization? Clearly, we're missing something here. Send more explorers into the jungle to find where these footstools came from.

  • Option 4: Praise Stool!

Huts of Mud

You've found lots of mud huts, entire cities of them, hidden to you until now by foliage and tides. You also see signs of battle, including what seems to be the remains of a quite sophisticated siege engines, and fragments of weapons, armour, and tabards that are clearly not from here. Clearly, somebody had a grudge against these poor, defenceless mud hut dwellers.

This event is for Zanzibar and the Zulu.

  • Option 1: Mud is good for making pottery. Dismantle the mud huts and make lots of pots and such from them.

  • Option 2: Who cares about some mud – did you say sophisticated siege engines? I want some of those; have our engineers study the ruins, at once!

  • Option 3: Who cares about siege engines, we aren't really besieging anyone these days anyway. I'm more interested in the fact that there was apparently an entire army from a culture that's completely unrecognizable all the way down here. Maybe we can find where they came from?

  • Option 4: Mudhuts bad. We'll stomp what remains of them into nothingness.
