First Consul Antonius claims govern with the support of the Army. First Consul Antonius claims that the Army despised the previous emperor. First Consul Antonius claims to support the troops.
But is any of this true? Is the Army actually on First Consul Antonius's side? Should the Army actually on First Consul Antonius's side?
Of course not.
First Consul Antonius had the support of only two generals for his seizure of power: the magister militum of the east and the comes of the Excubitors. Is this the sort of overwhelming military support that a true Roman leader should have?
Of course not.
First Consul Antonius got one of those two generals killed while fighting troops loyal to the emperor. Is that a sign of a man who respects the lives of his men?
Of course not.
First Consul Antonius failed to take any cities from the collapsing Reepublican [sic] remnant. Is this what you'd expect of a competent military leader?
Of course not.
First Consul Antonius abandoned the Exarchate of Egypt in their war against the Vandal menace, failing to uphold his end of the joint plan that had been negotiated between Constantinople and Alexandria. Is this the action of man who supports the troops?
Of course not.
First Consul Antonius lost the holy city of Jerusalem to the Muhammadian infidel, despite being forewarned of their attack. Is this the action of a true soldier of God?
Of course not.
First Consul Antonius does not support the troops. First Consul Antonius is not supported by the troops. First Consul Antonius should not be supported by the troops.
Don't be fooled by First Consul Antonius's false military credentials. Don't stand idly by while First Consul Antonius leads the Roman Army into inglorious defeat after inglorious defeat.
Support Imperator Caesar Flavius Valerius Balius Basiliscus Marcellus Porphyrogenitus Pius Felix Invictus Augustus as he restores the glory of Rome.
