The Sun had set, but the fires still crackled. In the past, it would've been a huge, burning bonfire on the outskirts of the city, wild and raging. Now, it was a far more civilized age, and with it a far more civilized firepit. It crackled politely, amidst a clearing in the garden.

Li Mei knelt before the fire, watching it. It was mesmerizing, yet... unsatisfying. But she had much to think about.

She found the reports she had gotten from her informants. Much had changed in the world...

A Sorcerer in America has rebelled - founded a northern kingdom!

The Exiled Sultan is betrayed! Plotted against by his traitorous Vizier in his old lands and by his Andean Host in the new.

Prime Minister Lee of Burma accused of plotting against Bogyoki! Implicated nefariously with other global agents for unknown purposes!

Conspires.

Yes, truly this was a conspiracy. More fragments of information had come across the world, but all seemed to have a common narrative - a league of shadowy conspirators were rising against their masters in foreign nations.

But so many questions - how did this information come to light? What co-conspirator, redacting his or her name in all of the incriminating documents, would betray the betrayers?

• First in the CSA, a Magician hunted for betrayal.

• Then, Chile, where the Leader was told to plot against Sultan Lurking.

• And when the Andean Premier was implicated, so too was the Vizier of Kilwa.

• And then in the largest drop, Polish and Burmese officials were implicated!

Li Mei flicked the reports into the fire. Copies had been made, but the Ascended Fathers must know. Some answers were necessary. Was there a Shang co-conspirator? Was there an air of revolution in the world? What must she do in response to these events.

She burnt the last tiding from the informers, and rose from her place. The fire was dying down, and yet Li Mei felt more lost than ever. This flame didn't have the passion that ones did in her past, but a quiet dignity. Perhaps that was what was needed in this modern time. But did a war not rage to the south? Did rebellions and revolts not rise up in every corner of the world? Could this truly be a more civilized time than of yore?

So many questions.

She found herself once more at her table, staring once more at the spike. The yearning for answers grew, and with it, the temptation to take up the spike once more.

*Yo, so this is kinda gamebreaky, but in light of the conspiracy I know a lot of people won't really know what's going on, so I wrote this up to try and tell you what we've learned so far. I'd prefer for Li Mei to not instantly learn everything so early in history, but yeah.
