This is my proposed plan of action for tomorrow's scramble.
Item 1. Setup Haven in the -,-
This is a good idea for multiple reasons. The biggest one, though is that MinasMinas has stated they will be building in the -,- (they have about 100 people) and it would be good to setup the city in more populated areas to help with trade and be hooked up to the rail lines easier. On top of MinasMinas, a few other cities have also stated they will be going there for the same reasons I've mentioned. Considering how big the map is, it'll probably be more effective for scouts to stick to one quarter of the map anyways.
Item 2. Build in a mountain near a plains and ocean biome
Biome preferences have been discussed a decent bit though it'd be wise to revisit the discussion now that the final configs are public. We should also decide ahead of time not just what the ideal is, but what our priorities are. If we can't find a mountain near both a plain and an ocean, but can find 2 mountiains, one near plains and one near an ocean, which will we take? Things like that.
I think a mountain should be the absolute minimum requirement due to the growth rate of potatoes in mountains. Potatoes are the most efficient food sources (Get 1-4 per block, can be cooked with efficiency factory mod for duplication, have the most hunger and saturation restoration than either bread or carrots). I'd argue for an ocean being more important than plains because automatic fishing (Just placing a few water source blocks above you and holding right click) is very effective and will keep us fed until the farms take off. Not to mention transportation is easier to the city with an ocean nearby.
Item 3. Re-writing the directory positions
Yagils and I have proposed an alternate set of roles for directors so there's less over-lap and more clarity. She'll post them after some discussion with the other directors via mod-mail.
Item 4. An immediate action plan
What happens after we find the land? We should probably prioritize our actions in advance. Here's my write-up:
Scouts will traverse the land looking for biomes (We've already got a lot of volunteers - lucky us) for us to set up in based on the biome priorities we agree upon. Scouts should also raid whatever villages they find for potatoes (Leaving carrots alone would be a nice gesture to help other towns but I don't really care enough to fight for it - your choice Haven). Additionally, getting as many seeds from grass without slowing down exploration would be good (Until potatoes grow enough to have a large seed population, grain can be planted to start us off). A dozen logs or so as well will be useful. Additional materials are: string, wool, & whatever clay you find on the surface.
Once a land is found we should dig out a little temporary base for beds and storage whilst we get started.
At that point we should divide ourselves between miners and farmers - miners going for ores to get us basic tools and farmers clearing land on the mountain to kick-start the farm, or clearing land in the plains or whatever for whatever crops grow better there. Farmers once done should start mining too but with a focus on clay to boost growth rates.
Once iron is available, buckets should be the first made to hydrate the farmland and to set up an auto-fishing area (if we're near an ocean) so we can get a stable food source quickly.
After this do whatever.
Final Note
Posting screenshots of the subreddit of potential locations along with their coords would be ideal while scouting.
We should really solidify these decisions as soon as possible so that the rest of our growth is unhindered by food shortages. All concerns/questions are welcome and I'd encourage discussion, as well as verification from the directors - mainly Hobo, Yags, Teal, and bigthirsty - crim and the Bastiats won't be joining us (see crim's post, and the bastiats are preoccupied in real life so they will not join us until later on). We've only got 16 hours or so until the reset and official agreement on a defined course of action will help rally our efforts so we can get a head-start.
