Introduction

Hello everyone! And welcome to this weekā€™s dev wednesday. /u/Sharpcastle33 and I have had a fairly busy week, but we didnā€™t let that stop us from getting some content out for you guys. Last weekā€™s rules discussion was incredibly productive, and really gave us some insight into what ways we could adapt our plan to change the rules to foster a better community here on CivEx.

Weā€™ve also received some continued interest in the how you can help post. If any of you havenā€™t read it and are interested in helping out with development (not just coding!) then give it a read and see what you might be interested in. We always appreciate help, and itā€™ll get this stuff out to you earlier than would otherwise be possible. I know development has been a long road of apparently infinite length, but it isnā€™t. Software development can be an incredibly tricky thing to pin down to a timetable, especially (effectively) hobby projects such as this one.

This weekā€™s post is going to be all about how we intend to interact with the community, with information on everything from our promotional material to the new community wiki /u/sirboss001 has so kindly offered to help create. We believe that community interaction is of vital importance to the serverā€™s survival and will be taking it very seriously.

The Promotions Team

This past weekend I put together a promotions team for CivEx. They are majority non-staff, but each has a focus in a specific area which make them well cut-out for the job. The members are /u/zefmiller, /u/lowridinghobbit, and /u/goldenappleguy. Most of their work is conceptual at the moment, but they have already produced some pretty cool content. For example, a new discord logo which will be going up soon! Their job is to develop graphics, audio snippets, text, and video promotional material for First Light and the Next Iteration. They also have another, pretty interesting job that you guys will have to wait for another dev wednesday to find out.

If anyone is interested in helping out with promotions, we will accept some applications provided they understand that they might be tied to this for a while, and that we are only really looking for people who are skilled in video editing at the moment--of course you can always convince us otherwise.

The Community Wiki

The community wiki (a.k.a. The Encyclopedia of 3.0) was origionally created by /u/sirboss001 as a place for individuals, nations, and groups in the community to record their nations in an easily-accessible location for newfriends and nostalgic long-time players alike to browse to their heartā€™s content. However, it has been rather insufficient in that original purpose. Thus, with the help of sirboss, weā€™ll be creating a new community wiki.

The new wiki will feature a new format/section called ā€œIterationsā€ in which all info of current and past iterations of CivEx may be archived. The main page will be the current iteration page, this being First Light. All of the sections of the old wiki will be refactored to fit into the new wikiā€™s format under an Iteration. Weā€™ll also be adding a variety of material from the previous iterations--1.0 and 2.0--and weā€™ll need your help for it! Once weā€™ve got the basics set up, Iā€™ll post a link to the wiki in the discord and replace the link in the top bar (next to message the mods/submit a ticket/devposts) with the new wiki.
